Instructions
-
Prepare the glazeIn a medium bowl, whisk together the hoisin sauce, soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, green onions, sesame seeds, and red pepper flakes (if using). Set aside ¼ cup of the mixture for serving.
-
Marinate the salmonPat the salmon fillets dry with paper towels. Place them in a shallow dish and pour the remaining glaze over them, turning to coat evenly. Let marinate for 10 minutes at room temperature.
-
Prepare for cookingPreheat a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add the neutral oil and swirl to coat the pan. Alternatively, preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) for baking.
-
Cook the salmonFor pan-searing: Place the salmon fillets skin-side down in the hot skillet. Cook for 4-5 minutes until the skin is crispy. Flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes until the salmon is opaque and flakes easily with a fork. For baking: Place the salmon skin-side down on a lined baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes until cooked through.
-
Reduce the remaining glazeWhile the salmon cooks, pour the reserved ¼ cup of glaze into a small saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and cook for 2-3 minutes until slightly thickened. Remove from heat.
-
ServeTransfer the cooked salmon to serving plates. Brush each fillet with the reduced glaze. Sprinkle with additional sliced green onions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately with your choice of sides like steamed rice and vegetables.
