Instructions

  1. Prepare the marinade
In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, grated ginger, minced garlic, sesame oil, green onions, and red pepper flakes if using. Reserve 2 tablespoons of the marinade for basting later.
  2. Marinate the salmon
Place the salmon fillets in a shallow dish, skin side down. Pour the marinade over the salmon, ensuring the fillets are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes, or up to 1 hour for more flavor.
  3. Preheat and prepare
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Remove the salmon from the marinade and pat dry with paper towels. Discard the used marinade.
  4. Sear the salmon
Heat olive oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. Place the salmon fillets skin-side down in the skillet and cook for 3 minutes until the skin is crisp.
  5. Finish in the oven
Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the salmon is just cooked through and flakes easily with a fork. During the last 2 minutes, brush the reserved marinade over the salmon.
  6. Garnish and serve
Remove the salmon from the oven and sprinkle with sesame seeds and additional sliced green onions. Let rest for 2 minutes before serving with lime wedges on the side for squeezing over the fish.
