Instructions

  1. Prepare the marinade
In a small bowl, combine the five spice powder, brown sugar, soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, rice vinegar, and honey. Stir until the sugar dissolves and you have a smooth marinade.
  2. Marinate the salmon
Pat the salmon fillets dry with paper towels. Place them in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over them, turning to coat evenly. Let marinate for 10 minutes (or up to 30 minutes if you have time).
  3. Preheat the pan
Heat the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering but not smoking.
  4. Cook the salmon
Place the salmon fillets in the hot pan, skin-side down. Cook for about 4-5 minutes until the skin is crispy. Carefully flip the fillets and cook for another 3-4 minutes, or until the salmon is cooked to your desired doneness. Spoon any remaining marinade over the fillets as they cook to create a glaze.
  5. Check for doneness
The salmon is done when it flakes easily with a fork but is still slightly translucent in the center for medium doneness. For well-done salmon, cook until completely opaque throughout.
  6. Serve
Transfer the salmon to serving plates. Sprinkle with sliced green onions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately with lime wedges on the side for squeezing over the fish.
