Instructions

  1. Prepare the glaze
In a medium saucepan, combine orange juice, honey, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, orange zest, rice vinegar, and red pepper flakes (if using). Bring to a simmer over medium heat and cook for 8-10 minutes until reduced by half and slightly thickened. Set aside to cool slightly.
  2. Prepare the salmon
Pat salmon fillets dry with paper towels. Season both sides with salt and pepper. Score the skin side lightly with a sharp knife to prevent curling during cooking.
  3. Cook the salmon
Heat olive oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Place salmon skin-side down and cook for 4-5 minutes until the skin is crispy. Carefully flip and cook for another 2-3 minutes. The salmon should be nearly cooked through but still slightly translucent in the center.
  4. Apply the glaze
Pour half of the glaze over the salmon in the pan. Tilt the pan and use a spoon to baste the salmon with the glaze for about 1-2 minutes until the glaze caramelizes and the salmon is fully cooked. Be careful not to burn the glaze.
  5. Serve
Transfer salmon to serving plates, drizzle with the remaining glaze, and garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately with your choice of sides like steamed rice or roasted vegetables.
