Instructions

  1. Prepare the tofu
Cut the pressed tofu into 1-inch cubes. Place the tofu in a large bowl and sprinkle with cornstarch. Gently toss until all pieces are lightly coated.
  2. Fry the tofu
Heat vegetable oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add the tofu in a single layer, working in batches if necessary. Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.
  3. Prepare the glaze
In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey or maple syrup, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, and red pepper flakes (if using) until well combined.
  4. Glaze the tofu
Return the tofu to the skillet over medium heat. Pour the glaze over the tofu and gently stir to coat all pieces. Cook for 3-5 minutes until the sauce thickens and becomes sticky, coating the tofu evenly.
  5. Add sesame seeds
Add 2 tablespoons of toasted sesame seeds to the pan and toss to coat the tofu pieces. Continue cooking for another minute to allow the sesame seeds to slightly toast in the glaze.
  6. Serve
Transfer the glazed sesame tofu to a serving plate. Garnish with sliced green onions and additional sesame seeds. Serve hot over steamed rice or alongside stir-fried vegetables.
