Instructions

  1. Prepare the tofu
Cut the pressed tofu into 1-inch cubes. Place in a large bowl and sprinkle with cornstarch, tossing gently until all cubes are lightly coated.
  2. Pan-fry the tofu
Heat vegetable oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the tofu cubes in a single layer (work in batches if necessary). Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.
  3. Make the teriyaki sauce
In a medium saucepan, combine soy sauce, mirin, brown sugar, rice vinegar, garlic, and ginger. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the sauce begins to thicken. Remove from heat and stir in sesame oil.
  4. Glaze the tofu
Return the crispy tofu to the skillet over medium heat. Pour the teriyaki sauce over the tofu and gently toss to coat. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the sauce has reduced slightly and coats the tofu cubes.
  5. Finish and serve
Sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions. Serve immediately over steamed rice or with stir-fried vegetables. For best results, serve while the tofu is still hot and the sauce is glossy.
