Instructions

  1. Prepare the cup
Add the sweetened condensed milk to the bottom of your heat-resistant glass or cup. If using vanilla extract, stir it into the condensed milk.
  2. Set up the phin filter
Place the Vietnamese phin filter on top of your cup. Add the coffee grounds to the filter chamber and gently shake to level the grounds.
  3. Add hot water
Place the filter insert on top of the grounds and press lightly. Pour a small amount of hot water (about 2 tablespoons) to wet the grounds, then wait 30 seconds for the coffee to bloom.
  4. Brew the coffee
Fill the filter chamber with the remaining hot water and place the lid on top. The coffee will slowly drip through the filter into your cup with the condensed milk, which should take about 4-5 minutes.
  5. Mix and serve
Once all the coffee has dripped through, remove the phin filter. Stir well to combine the strong coffee with the sweet condensed milk until fully incorporated. If using ground cinnamon, sprinkle on top and garnish with a cinnamon stick if desired.
