Instructions

  1. Prepare the coffee
Brew your espresso or strong coffee using your preferred method. Allow it to cool slightly if serving iced, or use hot for a warm version.
  2. Create the coconut mixture
In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the coconut milk, condensed milk, coconut cream, and brown sugar (if using). Warm the mixture, stirring frequently, until it's hot but not boiling. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla and coconut extracts.
  3. Froth the coconut mixture
For a creamier texture, use a handheld frother or blender to whip the coconut mixture until slightly frothy and well combined, about 30 seconds. Alternatively, whisk vigorously by hand.
  4. Toast the coconut flakes
In a dry skillet over medium heat, toast the coconut flakes until lightly golden, about 2-3 minutes. Watch carefully as they can burn quickly. Remove from heat and set aside to cool.
  5. Assemble the drink
For iced version: Fill two glasses with ice cubes. Pour the coffee over the ice, then slowly pour the coconut mixture over. For hot version: Pour the coffee into two mugs, then slowly add the hot coconut mixture on top.
  6. Garnish and serve
Sprinkle the toasted coconut flakes and a light dusting of cinnamon on top of each drink. Serve immediately with a straw for the iced version or a spoon to stir the hot version before drinking.
