Vietnamese Coffee Affogato
Creamy vanilla ice cream with rich Vietnamese coffee
Ingredients
Instructions
-
Prepare the coffee filtersPlace 1 tablespoon of Vietnamese coffee grounds into each phin filter. Ensure the filter plate is positioned correctly over the grounds and give it a gentle twist to secure.
-
Add condensed milkPut 1 tablespoon of sweetened condensed milk at the bottom of each serving glass. Traditional Vietnamese coffee uses condensed milk for sweetness and richness.
-
Brew the coffeePlace each phin filter on top of a serving glass. Pour about 1/2 cup of hot water (not boiling) into each filter and wait for the coffee to drip through slowly, about 4-5 minutes. The slow extraction process is essential for developing the coffee's rich flavor.
-
Prepare serving glassesWhile coffee is brewing, place scoops of vanilla ice cream into separate serving bowls or glasses. Chill the bowls in the freezer for 5 minutes before serving to keep the ice cream from melting too quickly.
-
Assemble the affogatoOnce the coffee is fully brewed and mixed with the condensed milk, pour it immediately over the ice cream scoops. The hot coffee will begin to melt the ice cream, creating a creamy mixture.
-
Garnish and serveSprinkle each serving with ground cinnamon and top with chocolate-covered coffee beans. Add optional garnishes like crushed peanuts, cinnamon sticks, or a light dusting of cocoa powder for extra flavor and presentation. Serve immediately with small spoons.
