Perfectly golden and gooey comfort food in minutes
Ingredients
Instructions
-
Prepare the breadLay out the bread slices on a clean work surface. Spread the outside of each slice with softened butter, making sure to cover the entire surface evenly.
-
Season the butter (optional)If using, mix the garlic powder, onion powder, and a pinch of salt into the remaining softened butter before spreading on the bread for extra flavor.
-
Assemble the sandwichesWith the buttered sides facing outward, place an even amount of the grated cheddar and American cheese between two slices of bread. If using mayonnaise, spread a thin layer on the inside of each slice before adding cheese for extra richness and crispiness.
-
Heat the panPlace a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium-low heat. Allow it to heat up for about 2 minutes until evenly warm but not smoking.
-
Cook the sandwichesPlace the assembled sandwiches in the pan. Cook for 3-4 minutes on the first side, until golden brown. Press down gently with a spatula occasionally to ensure even cooking.
-
Flip and finish cookingCarefully flip the sandwiches using a spatula. Cook for another 2-3 minutes on the second side until golden brown and the cheese is completely melted and gooey.
-
Rest and serveRemove the sandwiches from the pan and let them rest for 1 minute on a cutting board. This helps the cheese set slightly. Cut diagonally and serve immediately while hot and melty.
