Instructions

  1. Brew the coffee
Prepare 2 shots of strong Vietnamese coffee using a traditional phin filter, or brew espresso. Allow to cool completely. For authentic Vietnamese flavor, use robusta coffee beans if available.
  2. Prepare the avocado
Cut the avocado in half, remove the pit, and scoop the flesh into a blender. Make sure to use a ripe avocado that yields slightly to gentle pressure for the creamiest texture.
  3. Blend the base ingredients
Add the cooled coffee, sweetened condensed milk, milk, vanilla extract, and pinch of salt to the blender with the avocado. Blend on high speed until completely smooth and creamy, about 30-45 seconds.
  4. Add ice and finish blending
Add the ice cubes to the blender and pulse until the mixture is smooth and frothy. If you prefer a sweeter smoothie, add honey or maple syrup to taste and blend briefly to incorporate.
  5. Taste and adjust
Sample the smoothie and adjust sweetness or coffee strength according to your preference. For a stronger coffee flavor, add a bit more espresso; for more sweetness, add additional condensed milk or honey.
  6. Serve and garnish
Pour the smoothie into tall glasses. If desired, top with whipped cream and a light dusting of cocoa powder or coffee grounds for an elegant presentation.
