Instructions

  1. Prepare the tuna
In a medium bowl, break apart the drained tuna using a fork. Make sure to flake it thoroughly to remove any large chunks.
  2. Mix the salad ingredients
Add mayonnaise, diced red onion, celery, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, black pepper, and optional dill to the bowl. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  3. Adjust seasoning
Taste the tuna salad and adjust seasoning if needed. Add more mayonnaise if you prefer a creamier texture, or more lemon juice for extra tang.
  4. Chill the mixture
For best flavor, cover the bowl and refrigerate the tuna salad for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
  5. Assemble the sandwiches
Lay out 4 slices of bread. Divide the tuna salad mixture evenly among them, spreading it to the edges. Top each with a lettuce leaf and 2 slices of tomato.
  6. Complete the sandwiches
Place the remaining 4 slices of bread on top of each sandwich. Cut diagonally if desired and serve immediately.
