Instructions

  1. Marinate the shrimp
In a medium bowl, combine shrimp, 1 tablespoon olive oil, 2 tablespoons lime juice, minced garlic, cumin, chili powder, cayenne (if using), salt, and pepper. Toss to coat evenly and let marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  2. Prepare the slaw
In a separate bowl, toss the shredded cabbage with remaining lime juice, 1 tablespoon olive oil, half of the cilantro, and salt to taste. Set aside to allow flavors to meld.
  3. Cook the shrimp
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated shrimp and cook for 2-3 minutes per side until they turn pink and opaque. Remove from heat and set aside.
  4. Warm the tortillas
Heat the tortillas in a dry skillet over medium heat for about 30 seconds per side, or wrap them in damp paper towels and microwave for 30 seconds. Keep warm by wrapping in a clean kitchen towel.
  5. Prepare the crema
If using sour cream, thin it slightly with a teaspoon of water or lime juice and stir until smooth. Season with a pinch of salt.
  6. Assemble the tacos
Place a small amount of the cabbage slaw on each tortilla. Top with 3-4 cooked shrimp, sliced avocado, a drizzle of crema, and sprinkle with remaining cilantro and jalapeño slices if desired.
