Carne Asada Tacos
Grilled marinated steak in warm corn tortillas with fresh toppings
Ingredients
Instructions
-
Prepare the marinadeIn a large bowl, combine olive oil, minced garlic, lime juice, orange juice, soy sauce, cumin, chili powder, and half of the chopped cilantro. Whisk thoroughly until well blended.
-
Marinate the steakPlace the steak in a large resealable plastic bag or shallow dish and pour the marinade over it, ensuring the meat is completely covered. Seal or cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably 4-6 hours for maximum flavor development.
-
Prepare the grillPreheat your grill to high heat (about 450-500°F). Clean and oil the grates to prevent sticking. If using a cast-iron skillet instead, heat it over high heat until very hot.
-
Grill the steakRemove the steak from the marinade and pat dry with paper towels. Discard the used marinade. Grill the steak for 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare, or until it reaches your desired doneness (135°F for medium-rare, 145°F for medium). Let the meat rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
-
Slice the meatAfter resting, slice the steak thinly against the grain at a slight angle. This ensures tender, easy-to-bite pieces perfect for tacos.
-
Warm the tortillasHeat the corn tortillas on the grill or in a dry skillet for about 30 seconds per side until warm and slightly charred. Keep them warm by wrapping in a clean kitchen towel or aluminum foil.
-
Assemble the tacosPlace a small amount of sliced carne asada in the center of each tortilla. Top with diced onion, remaining fresh cilantro, salsa or pico de gallo, and avocado slices or guacamole as desired.
-
Serve immediatelyArrange tacos on a serving platter with lime wedges on the side. Squeeze fresh lime juice over tacos just before eating for a bright, citrusy finish.
