Italian Caprese Panini
Classic Italian sandwich with fresh mozzarella, tomato, and basil
Ingredients
Instructions
-
Prepare the breadIf using a panini press, preheat it to medium-high heat. Slice the ciabatta rolls in half horizontally. Lightly rub the cut sides with the halved garlic clove to impart a subtle garlic flavor. Brush the outer sides with olive oil or spread with softened butter if desired.
-
Assemble the paniniOn the bottom half of each roll, layer 2-3 slices of fresh mozzarella, followed by 2-3 slices of tomato. Sprinkle with a pinch of sea salt and freshly ground black pepper. Add 5-6 fresh basil leaves on top of the tomatoes, then drizzle with a small amount of olive oil and balsamic glaze.
-
Cook the paniniPlace the assembled panini in the preheated panini press and close the lid. Cook for about 3-5 minutes until the bread is golden and crispy and the cheese begins to melt. If you don't have a panini press, you can use a heavy skillet to press down on the sandwiches while cooking in a regular pan over medium heat, flipping halfway through.
-
Serve hotRemove the panini from the press or pan and let them rest for 1-2 minutes. Cut each panini in half diagonally and serve immediately while hot and the cheese is still melty. Garnish with additional fresh basil leaves and a light drizzle of balsamic glaze if desired.
