  1. Slice the ingredients
    Slice the tomatoes and mozzarella into 1/4-inch thick rounds. Wash and dry the basil leaves, keeping smaller ones intact and tearing larger ones if necessary.
  2. Arrange the salad
    On a large serving platter, arrange the tomato and mozzarella slices in an alternating pattern, slightly overlapping each slice. Tuck the basil leaves between the tomato and cheese slices or scatter them over the top.
  3. Prepare the dressing
    In a small bowl, whisk together the extra virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and minced garlic (if using). Season with a small pinch of salt and pepper.
  4. Finish and serve
    Drizzle the dressing evenly over the arranged salad. Sprinkle with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper. Allow the salad to rest for 5 minutes at room temperature before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
