Classic Italian tomato and mozzarella salad with fresh basil

Slice the ingredientsSlice the tomatoes and mozzarella into 1/4-inch thick rounds. Wash and dry the basil leaves, keeping smaller ones intact and tearing larger ones if necessary.

Arrange the saladOn a large serving platter, arrange the tomato and mozzarella slices in an alternating pattern, slightly overlapping each slice. Tuck the basil leaves between the tomato and cheese slices or scatter them over the top.

Prepare the dressingIn a small bowl, whisk together the extra virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and minced garlic (if using). Season with a small pinch of salt and pepper.
