Ingredients
Instructions
-
Prepare the tunaEnsure your ahi tuna is sashimi-grade and very fresh. Cut the tuna into uniform 3/4-inch cubes, removing any dark parts or sinew. Place the cubes in a large mixing bowl and set aside.
-
Rehydrate the seaweedPlace the dried limu seaweed in a small bowl with cool water for about 5 minutes until softened. Drain well and chop into small pieces.
-
Create the marinadeIn a separate bowl, combine the soy sauce, sesame oil, Hawaiian sea salt, and grated ginger. Mix well until the salt is dissolved.
-
Combine ingredientsAdd the sliced Maui onion, green onions, rehydrated limu seaweed, and red pepper flakes (if using) to the bowl with the tuna cubes.
-
Mix and marinatePour the marinade over the tuna mixture and gently fold everything together using a large spoon or your hands. Be careful not to mash the tuna pieces. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and fold once more to incorporate.
-
Chill and serveCover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes (or up to 2 hours) to allow the flavors to develop. Just before serving, gently fold in the diced avocado if using. Serve cold.
