Instructions

  1. Prepare the marinade
In a medium bowl, whisk together soy sauce, sesame oil, sriracha, rice vinegar, and honey until well combined and the honey is fully dissolved.
  2. Marinate the tuna
Add the cubed tuna to the marinade and gently toss to coat. Cover and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes, but no longer than 1 hour to maintain the fresh texture of the fish.
  3. Prepare the rice
While the tuna is marinating, prepare your rice if not already cooked. Allow it to cool slightly before assembling the bowls. For authentic Hawaiian style, you can mix the rice with a little rice vinegar and salt.
  4. Prepare the vegetables
Dice the cucumber, slice the avocado, shred the carrots, and chop the green onions. Keep all prepared vegetables separated until ready to assemble.
  5. Toast the sesame seeds
In a small dry pan over medium heat, toast the sesame seeds until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently to prevent burning. Remove from heat and set aside to cool.
  6. Assemble the bowls
Divide the cooled rice among four bowls. Arrange the marinated tuna and prepared vegetables on top of the rice in separate sections for a colorful presentation.
  7. Add final garnishes
Sprinkle each bowl with toasted sesame seeds and nori strips. If desired, drizzle with any remaining marinade from the tuna for extra flavor.
