Instructions

  1. Prepare the shrimp
Pat the shell-on shrimp dry with paper towels. Make sure they are deveined but keep the shells on as they add flavor during cooking.
  2. Make the garlic butter sauce
In a large skillet, melt the butter with olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant but not browned.
  3. Season the sauce
Add the paprika, cayenne pepper (if using), flour, salt, and black pepper to the garlic butter mixture. Stir to combine and cook for another minute until the sauce thickens slightly.
  4. Cook the shrimp
Increase heat to medium-high and add the shrimp to the skillet in a single layer. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until the shells turn pink and the shrimp is cooked through. Be careful not to overcook.
  5. Finish with lemon
Remove the skillet from heat and sprinkle the fresh lemon juice over the shrimp. Toss to coat all the shrimp in the sauce.
  6. Serve family-style
Transfer the shrimp and all the sauce to a large serving platter. Sprinkle with chopped parsley and serve immediately with steamed white rice on the side. Provide extra napkins as eating shell-on shrimp can be messy!
