Instructions

  1. Prepare the ingredients
Rinse the fresh tulsi leaves thoroughly under cold water. If using dried tulsi, measure out the required amount. Peel and slice the ginger. Lightly crush the cardamom pods to release their flavor.
  2. Boil the water
In a small saucepan, bring the water to a rolling boil over medium-high heat.
  3. Add the spices
Add the tulsi leaves, ginger slices, cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, cloves, black peppercorns, and lemongrass (if using) to the boiling water. Reduce the heat to low.
  4. Simmer the tea
Allow the mixture to simmer gently for 5-7 minutes. The water will take on a light golden-green color and become fragrant as the herbs release their essential oils.
  5. Strain and serve
Remove from heat and strain the tea through a fine-mesh sieve into cups or a teapot. Add honey or jaggery and lemon juice if desired, stirring until dissolved. Serve immediately while hot.
