Ingredients
Instructions
-
Prepare the spicesUsing the flat side of a knife or a mortar and pestle, lightly crush the cardamom pods to release their flavor. If using other spices, have them ready to add.
-
Boil the waterIn a medium saucepan, bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, add the crushed cardamom pods and any other optional spices (cinnamon stick, cloves, ginger, and star anise).
-
Add the teaAdd the loose tea leaves or tea bags to the boiling water. Reduce the heat to medium-low and let the mixture simmer for 2-3 minutes until the water turns a deep amber color.
-
Add milk and simmerPour in the milk and increase the heat slightly. Allow the tea to come to a gentle simmer, but don't let it boil over. Simmer for 2-3 minutes until the tea develops a rich, creamy color.
-
Sweeten the teaAdd sugar or honey to taste, stirring until completely dissolved. Continue to simmer for another minute to allow the flavors to fully combine.
-
Strain and serveTurn off the heat and allow the tea to steep for one more minute. Strain the tea through a fine-mesh sieve into teacups or mugs, catching the tea leaves and spices. Serve hot, optionally garnishing with a small pinch of ground cardamom on top.
