Instructions

  1. Bloom the saffron
In a small bowl, add the saffron threads to 2 tablespoons of hot water. Allow to steep for 5 minutes until the water turns a deep golden color and the saffron releases its aroma.
  2. Prepare the spice mixture
In a medium saucepan, combine water, crushed cardamom pods, cinnamon stick, cloves, and grated ginger. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 3-4 minutes to extract the flavors.
  3. Add tea and milk
Add the black tea leaves to the spice mixture and simmer for 2 minutes. Then pour in the milk and bring the mixture back to a gentle simmer. Do not allow it to boil rapidly as this can cause the milk to separate.
  4. Infuse with saffron
Add the bloomed saffron along with its liquid to the tea mixture. Stir in the sugar and black pepper (if using). Allow the tea to simmer gently for 5-7 minutes until it reaches a rich, golden color.
  5. Strain and finish
Remove from heat and strain the tea through a fine-mesh sieve into a teapot or directly into serving cups. If using rose water, stir it in now for a delicate floral note.
  6. Serve and garnish
Pour the saffron milk tea into cups, garnish with chopped pistachios. Serve hot and enjoy the luxurious, aromatic experience.
