Instructions

  1. Rinse the teapot
Fill your teapot with hot water, swirl it around, and discard the water. This warms the pot and prepares it for brewing.
  2. Rinse the tea leaves
Add the gunpowder green tea to the teapot. Pour in 1-2 tablespoons of boiling water, swirl gently for about 30 seconds, then discard this water. This initial rinse removes bitterness and impurities from the tea.
  3. First brewing
Add 4 cups of boiling water to the rinsed tea leaves. Let it steep for about 2 minutes, then pour one glass to test the color. It should be a clear amber color. If it's too light, allow it to steep longer.
  4. Add mint and sugar
Add the fresh mint leaves and sugar to the pot. Stir gently to help the sugar dissolve. If using, add the orange blossom water at this stage for an authentic touch of flavor.
  5. Brew the final tea
Allow the tea to steep for another 3-5 minutes, letting the mint and sugar fully infuse into the brew. The longer it steeps, the stronger the mint flavor will be.
  6. Aerate the tea
Pour the tea into a glass from a height of about 12 inches, then pour it back into the pot. Repeat this process 2-3 times. This traditional pouring technique aerates the tea, creating a light foam on top and enhancing the flavor.
  7. Serve with flair
Pour the tea into small decorative glasses from a height to create a frothy top. Garnish each glass with a fresh sprig of mint. If using, sprinkle a few pine nuts or walnuts on top for an authentic presentation.
