Ingredients
Instructions
-
Combine the ingredientsIn a small saucepan, combine the milk, ground turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, black pepper, and cardamom. If using, add the coconut oil or ghee at this stage.
-
Heat the mixturePlace the saucepan over medium-low heat and whisk the ingredients together. Heat the mixture gently, stirring frequently to prevent the milk from scalding or forming a skin on top.
-
Simmer gentlyOnce the milk is warm but not boiling (small bubbles will form around the edges), reduce the heat to low and simmer for 5-10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
-
Add sweetener and vanillaRemove the saucepan from heat and stir in the honey or maple syrup and vanilla extract. Adjust sweetness to taste.
-
Strain and servePour the turmeric milk through a fine-mesh strainer into mugs to remove any undissolved spices or fresh ginger pieces. Garnish with a sprinkle of cinnamon or a star anise pod if desired. Serve hot.
