French Onion Dip
Creamy, savory dip with caramelized onions and herbs
Ingredients
Instructions
-
Caramelize the onionsHeat butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium-low heat. Add sliced onions, sugar, salt, and pepper. Cook for 30-35 minutes, stirring occasionally, until onions are deeply golden brown and caramelized. If onions start to burn, reduce heat and add a splash of water.
-
Cool the onionsRemove the caramelized onions from heat and allow them to cool completely to room temperature, about 15 minutes. Once cooled, roughly chop the onions into smaller pieces.
-
Mix the baseIn a medium mixing bowl, combine sour cream, mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder. Stir until all ingredients are thoroughly incorporated and the mixture is smooth.
-
Add the onionsFold the cooled, chopped caramelized onions into the sour cream mixture. Stir gently until evenly distributed throughout the dip.
-
Season and finishFold in the chopped chives. Taste and adjust seasoning with additional salt and pepper if needed. For the best flavor, cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight to allow the flavors to meld together.
-
ServeTransfer to a serving bowl, garnish with additional fresh chives, and serve chilled with potato chips, vegetable crudités, or crackers.
