Ingredients
Instructions
-
Prepare the vegetablesHeat 2 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms. Season with salt and pepper. Cook for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until vegetables are softened and beginning to caramelize. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more. Transfer to a bowl and set aside.
-
Cook the steakIn the same skillet, heat the vegetable oil over high heat until almost smoking. Add the thinly sliced steak in a single layer (you may need to work in batches). Season with salt, pepper, and dried oregano. Cook for 2-3 minutes, flipping once, until browned but still slightly pink in the center. Add Worcestershire sauce and toss to coat. Remove from heat.
-
Prepare the rollsPreheat broiler. Spread the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter on the inside of the hoagie rolls. Place on a baking sheet and toast under the broiler for 1-2 minutes until lightly golden. Watch carefully to prevent burning.
-
Assemble the sandwichesDivide the cooked steak among the bottom halves of the toasted rolls. Top each with an equal portion of the sautéed vegetable mixture.
-
Add cheese and meltPlace 2 slices of provolone cheese over the vegetables on each sandwich. Return to the broiler for 1-2 minutes, until cheese is melted and bubbly. Again, watch carefully to prevent burning.
-
ServeClose the sandwiches with the top halves of the rolls. Slice in half diagonally if desired and serve immediately while hot and cheese is still melty.
