Prepare the matchaIn a small bowl, sift the matcha powder to remove any clumps. Add 2 tablespoons of hot (not boiling) water and whisk vigorously in a zigzag motion until the matcha is completely dissolved and slightly frothy.

Heat the milkPour the milk into a medium saucepan and heat over medium-low heat until it begins to steam but not boil, about 3-4 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent scorching.

Add the white chocolateReduce heat to low and add the chopped white chocolate to the hot milk. Whisk continuously until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth, about 2-3 minutes.

Combine with matchaSlowly whisk the prepared matcha mixture into the white chocolate milk. Add the vanilla extract, pinch of salt, and sweetener if using. Continue to whisk until everything is well incorporated and the mixture is smooth and creamy.

Adjust and serveTaste and adjust sweetness if needed. Pour the hot chocolate into two mugs. Top with whipped cream, a light dusting of matcha powder, and white chocolate shavings. Serve immediately while hot.
