Instructions

  1. Brew the hojicha tea
Bring 1 cup of water to a boil in a small saucepan. Remove from heat and add the hojicha tea leaves or tea bags. Allow to steep for 3-5 minutes, then strain out the leaves or remove the tea bags. The tea should be a rich amber-brown color.
  2. Heat the milk
In the same saucepan, add the milk and heat over medium-low heat until it begins to steam but not boil. Stir occasionally to prevent scorching.
  3. Combine and sweeten
Pour the steeped hojicha tea back into the saucepan with the milk. Add honey or maple syrup, vanilla extract (if using), and a pinch of salt. Whisk until well combined and heated through.
  4. Froth if desired
For a frothy latte, use a milk frother, immersion blender, or vigorously whisk the mixture until light and foamy. Alternatively, you can transfer the mixture to a blender and blend on medium speed for 20-30 seconds until frothy.
  5. Serve and garnish
Pour the hot hojicha latte into two mugs. Top with whipped cream if desired and sprinkle with a small amount of ground cinnamon for garnish. Serve immediately while hot.
