Instructions

  1. Heat the water
Bring the filtered water to a temperature of 80-85°C (175-185°F). Avoid using boiling water as it can make the tea taste bitter. If you don't have a thermometer, bring water to a boil and then let it cool for about 2 minutes.
  2. Prepare the teapot
Warm your teapot or brewing vessel by rinsing it with hot water, then discard the water. This helps maintain the tea's temperature during brewing.
  3. Add the tea leaves
Place the Genmaicha tea leaves in the warmed teapot. If using loose brown rice or matcha powder for variations, add them now.
  4. Pour water and steep
Pour the heated water over the tea leaves. Cover the teapot with a lid and let the tea steep for 2-3 minutes. Steeping too long may result in a bitter taste.
  5. Strain and serve
Strain the tea into cups or a serving teapot. If you're using a teapot with a built-in strainer, simply pour the tea through it. Add optional sweetener if desired.
  6. Garnish and enjoy
If using optional garnishes like lemon or mint, add them now. Serve immediately while hot, or let cool slightly to appreciate the complex nutty and grassy flavors of the tea.
