Instructions

  1. Prepare the sakura flowers
If using salt-preserved sakura flowers, soak them in cold water for about 30 minutes to remove excess salt. Gently rinse them under cold running water and pat dry with a paper towel.
  2. Heat the water
In a small pot, bring 4 cups of filtered water to just below boiling point (about 180°F or 82°C). Remove from heat once you see small bubbles forming at the bottom of the pot.
  3. Infuse the tea
Add the prepared sakura flowers to the hot water. Cover the pot with a lid and let the flowers steep for 5-7 minutes, depending on how strong you want the flavor to be.
  4. Sweeten if desired
If you prefer a sweeter tea, add honey or rock sugar while the tea is still hot and stir gently until completely dissolved. The subtle sweetness complements the delicate floral flavor.
  5. Strain and serve
Using a fine-mesh strainer, pour the tea into glass teacups to showcase its beautiful pale pink color. Place one sakura flower in each cup for presentation. If using, sprinkle a tiny amount of matcha powder on top for contrast.
