Ingredients
Instructions
-
Brown the beefHeat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes, breaking it up into small pieces with a wooden spoon. Drain excess fat, leaving about 1 tablespoon in the pan.
-
Sauté the vegetablesAdd the diced onions and bell peppers to the skillet with the beef. Cook until vegetables have softened, about 4-5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
-
Create the sauceReduce heat to medium and add butter to the skillet. Once melted, sprinkle flour over the meat mixture and stir to coat everything evenly. Cook for 1 minute to remove the raw flour taste.
-
Add liquids and seasoningsPour in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and ketchup. Stir well to combine, making sure to scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Add oregano, salt, and pepper.
-
Simmer the mixtureBring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency. If the mixture becomes too thick, add a splash more beef broth.
-
Add the cheeseTear the provolone cheese slices into smaller pieces and add them to the skillet. Stir gently until the cheese is melted and incorporated throughout the mixture.
-
Serve on bunsSpoon the hot cheesesteak sloppy joe mixture onto the bottom halves of the toasted hamburger buns. Top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately while hot and gooey.
