Cuban Sandwiches
Crispy pressed sandwich with roasted pork, ham, and pickles
Ingredients
Instructions
-
Prepare the breadSlice the Cuban bread or baguettes in half lengthwise, opening them up like a book but not cutting all the way through. Generously spread yellow mustard on both the top and bottom halves of each bread.
-
Layer the ingredientsStart layering your sandwiches with ham, followed by the roasted pork. Add the Swiss cheese slices, ensuring even coverage. Arrange the pickle slices evenly across the sandwiches. Season lightly with salt and pepper if desired.
-
Close and butter the sandwichesClose the sandwiches and gently press down. Spread the softened butter on the outside of each sandwich (top and bottom). If using a panini press, brush it with olive oil instead of buttering the bread.
-
Heat the pressHeat your sandwich press, panini maker, or a large skillet over medium heat. If using a skillet, you'll also need another heavy pan or a brick wrapped in foil to press the sandwiches.
-
Grill the sandwichesPlace the sandwiches in the press or skillet (butter side down if using a skillet). If using a skillet, place the wrapped brick or heavy pan on top of the sandwiches to press them down. Grill for 3-4 minutes per side until the bread is crispy and golden brown and the cheese is melted.
-
Slice and serveRemove the sandwiches from the heat. Let them rest for 1-2 minutes, then slice diagonally and serve immediately while hot and crispy. Traditional Cuban sandwiches are cut diagonally into triangular halves.
