Instructions

  1. Prepare the beef mixture
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes, breaking it up with a wooden spoon as it cooks. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  2. Add aromatics and seasonings
Add the diced onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 3 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant. Stir in the taco seasoning, coating the meat mixture evenly.
  3. Simmer the filling
Pour in the tomato sauce and water, stirring to combine. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 5-10 minutes until the sauce has thickened and flavors have melded. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Warm the tortillas
While the beef mixture simmers, warm the tortillas. For soft tortillas, wrap them in a damp paper towel and microwave for 30 seconds, or heat individually in a dry skillet for 20-30 seconds per side until pliable and lightly browned in spots.
  5. Prepare toppings
Arrange all toppings in separate bowls: shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, sour cream, and avocado slices or mashed avocado.
  6. Assemble the tacos
Spoon the beef mixture onto each warm tortilla. Top with desired toppings and serve immediately, allowing everyone to customize their own tacos.
