Smoky, sticky wings with a sweet and spicy glaze
Ingredients
Instructions
-
Prepare the wingsPat the chicken wings dry with paper towels. In a large bowl, toss the wings with vegetable oil to coat evenly.
-
Season the wingsIn a small bowl, mix together garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Sprinkle this dry rub over the wings and toss until all wings are evenly coated. Let the wings marinate for at least 10 minutes (or refrigerate for up to 8 hours for more flavor).
-
Preheat and arrangePreheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and place a wire rack on top. Arrange the wings in a single layer on the rack, making sure they don't touch each other.
-
Bake the wingsBake the wings in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, turning halfway through, until the skin is crispy and the wings are cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F/74°C).
-
Prepare the barbecue sauceWhile the wings are baking, prepare the barbecue sauce. In a medium saucepan, combine the barbecue sauce, honey, apple cider vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally, and cook for about 5 minutes until slightly thickened.
-
Glaze the wingsWhen the wings are done, remove them from the oven and brush them generously with the barbecue sauce mixture. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes until the sauce is caramelized.
-
Final coating and serveRemove the wings from the oven and toss them in the remaining barbecue sauce until fully coated. Transfer to a serving platter and serve hot with your favorite dipping sauces such as ranch or blue cheese dressing.
