Ingredients
Instructions
-
Prepare the pie crustPreheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the pie crust in a 9-inch pie dish, trim excess dough, and crimp edges. Refrigerate while preparing the filling.
-
Make the apple fillingIn a large bowl, combine sliced apples, granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Toss gently until apples are evenly coated. Let stand for 10 minutes to allow juices to release.
-
Prepare the crumble toppingIn a medium bowl, mix 1 cup flour and brown sugar. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, cut in the cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in rolled oats until combined.
-
Assemble the piePour the apple filling into the chilled pie crust, arranging the slices evenly. Sprinkle the crumble topping over the apples, covering them completely.
-
Bake the piePlace the pie on a baking sheet to catch any drips. Bake for 45-50 minutes, until the filling is bubbling and the crumble topping is golden brown. If the edges brown too quickly, cover them with aluminum foil.
-
Cool and serveRemove from oven and cool on a wire rack for at least 2 hours before slicing. This allows the filling to set properly. Serve warm or at room temperature, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
