
British Apple Crumble
A warm, comforting dessert with tender apples and crisp topping

Prepare the applesPeel, core and slice the apples into chunks about 2cm thick. Place them in a large bowl and toss with the granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice until evenly coated.

Prepare the baking dishTransfer the apple mixture to a 23cm (9-inch) baking dish, spreading them out evenly. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).

Make the crumble toppingIn a large bowl, combine the flour and cold butter. Using your fingertips, rub the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs. Stir in the brown sugar, rolled oats, and salt until well combined.

Assemble the crumbleSprinkle the crumble mixture evenly over the apples, covering them completely. Gently press down the topping slightly.

Bake the crumblePlace the baking dish on a baking tray (to catch any juices that might bubble over) and bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, until the topping is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbling around the edges.

Rest and serveRemove from the oven and allow to cool for 10-15 minutes before serving. Serve warm with custard, vanilla ice cream, or pouring cream.
