Berry Crumble
A warm, fruity dessert with a crisp, buttery topping
Ingredients
Instructions
-
Prepare the berriesPreheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Wash and dry all berries. Hull and quarter strawberries if using, leaving smaller berries whole. Place berries in a large bowl.
-
Create the berry fillingIn a small bowl, mix granulated sugar and cornstarch. Sprinkle over berries, add lemon juice and vanilla extract, then gently toss until berries are evenly coated. Transfer to a 9-inch baking dish or pie plate.
-
Make the crumble toppingIn a medium bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add cold cubed butter and use your fingers or a pastry cutter to work the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in chopped nuts if using.
-
Assemble and bakeSprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the berry mixture. Place the baking dish on a sheet pan to catch any overflow. Bake for 30-35 minutes, until the topping is golden brown and the berry filling is bubbling around the edges.
-
Cool and serveRemove from oven and allow to cool for at least 15 minutes before serving. The crumble will thicken as it cools. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream if desired.
