
Thai Basil Beef Bowls
Spicy stir-fried beef with fragrant basil over steamed rice

Prepare the sauceIn a small bowl, combine the oyster sauce, soy sauce, fish sauce, and brown sugar. Stir until the sugar is dissolved and set aside.

Cook the aromaticsHeat the vegetable oil in a large wok or skillet over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic and sliced chilies, stir-frying for about 30 seconds until fragrant but not burned.

Brown the beefAdd the ground beef to the wok, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Cook for 4-5 minutes until no longer pink and starting to brown, stirring occasionally.

Add vegetablesAdd the sliced onions and bell peppers to the wok. Stir-fry for 2 minutes until the vegetables begin to soften but still maintain some crispness.

Combine with saucePour the prepared sauce over the beef mixture and stir to coat everything evenly. Cook for 1-2 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together and the sauce to slightly reduce.

Finish with basilTurn off the heat and add the Thai basil leaves. Stir quickly to wilt the basil in the residual heat. The basil should remain vibrant green but just wilted.

Assemble the bowlsDivide the cooked jasmine rice among four bowls. Top each with a portion of the basil beef mixture. If using, place a fried egg on top of each bowl. Serve immediately with lime wedges on the side.
