Texas Hot Dog
Spicy beef hot dogs topped with chili, cheese and jalapeños
Ingredients
Instructions
-
Prepare the hot dogsHeat a grill or skillet to medium-high heat. If using a skillet, add 1-2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Cook the hot dogs, turning occasionally, until they're heated through and have nice grill marks or browning all around, about 5-7 minutes.
-
Toast the bunsLightly butter the inside of each hot dog bun. Place them cut-side down on the grill or in a separate skillet over medium heat until lightly toasted and golden brown, about 1-2 minutes.
-
Heat the chiliWhile the hot dogs are cooking, warm the chili in a small saucepan over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally until hot throughout, about 5 minutes. If the chili is too thick, add a tablespoon of water to reach desired consistency.
-
Assemble the hot dogsPlace each cooked hot dog in a toasted bun. Spread a thin layer of mustard inside each bun alongside the hot dog. Top each hot dog with a generous spoonful of warm chili.
-
Add toppingsSprinkle each hot dog with shredded cheddar cheese, diced onions, and sliced jalapeños. The heat from the hot dog and chili will help melt the cheese slightly. Add chopped cilantro if desired.
-
Serve immediatelyServe the Texas Hot Dogs right away while they're still warm. Provide napkins – these hot dogs are deliciously messy! Serve with additional toppings on the side for people to customize their hot dogs.
