Instructions
-
Brown the beefHeat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon as it cooks. Drain excess fat, leaving about 1 tablespoon in the pan.
-
Sauté the vegetablesAdd the diced onion and green bell pepper to the skillet with the beef. Cook for 3-4 minutes until vegetables begin to soften. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
-
Add sauce ingredientsStir in the tomato sauce, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, yellow mustard, chili powder, and paprika. Mix thoroughly to combine all ingredients with the meat mixture.
-
Simmer the mixtureReduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
-
Toast the bunsWhile the meat mixture is simmering, lightly toast the hamburger buns either in a toaster, under a broiler, or on a skillet until golden brown.
-
ServeSpoon the hot Sloppy Joe mixture onto the bottom halves of the toasted buns. Top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately with plenty of napkins.
