Instructions

  1. Prepare the batter
In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the vanilla extract and ground cardamom and mix well.
  2. Add wet ingredients
Slowly pour in the heavy cream while whisking continuously. Add the melted butter and mix until fully incorporated.
  3. Combine dry ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and baking powder. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, whisking until you have a smooth batter. Let the batter rest for 10 minutes.
  4. Preheat waffle iron
Preheat your heart-shaped waffle iron (or regular waffle iron) according to manufacturer's instructions. Lightly brush with melted butter.
  5. Cook the waffles
Pour about 1/3 cup of batter onto the preheated waffle iron, spreading it evenly. Close the iron and cook until golden and crisp, about 2-3 minutes. Repeat with remaining batter.
  6. Keep waffles warm
As you cook the waffles, transfer them to a wire rack set over a baking sheet in a 200°F (95°C) oven to keep warm and crisp until ready to serve.
  7. Serve
Serve the waffles warm with traditional toppings such as sour cream, fresh berries, jam, or a dusting of powdered sugar. For an authentic Norwegian experience, fold the waffles and enjoy with brunost (brown cheese).
