Instructions

  1. Prepare the steaks
Season the beef steaks with salt and pepper on both sides. If they aren't already thin, place them between plastic wrap and pound with a meat mallet until they're about 1/4 inch thick.
  2. Bread the milanesas
Set up a breading station: one plate with flour, one bowl with beaten eggs, and another plate with breadcrumbs mixed with dried oregano. Dredge each steak in flour, then dip in the beaten eggs, and finally coat thoroughly with the seasoned breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.
  3. Fry the milanesas
Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, fry the breaded steaks for about 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  4. Prepare the sauce
In a small saucepan, heat the tomato sauce with minced garlic over medium heat for about 5 minutes until fragrant. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Assemble the napolitana
Preheat your oven's broiler. Place the fried milanesas on a baking sheet. Top each with a slice of ham, 2-3 slices of tomato, a few tablespoons of tomato sauce, and slices of mozzarella cheese.
  6. Melt the cheese
Place under the broiler for 3-5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbling with slight browning. Watch carefully to prevent burning.
  7. Serve
Remove from the oven, sprinkle with fresh chopped parsley, and serve immediately. Traditional accompaniments include french fries, mashed potatoes, or a simple green salad.
