Ingredients
Instructions
-
Prepare the doughIn a large bowl, combine the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Make a well in the center and add the olive oil and warm water. Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour until doubled in size.
-
Caramelize the onionsWhile the dough is rising, heat butter in a large skillet over medium-low heat. Add the sliced onions and cook slowly, stirring occasionally, for about 30-40 minutes until they become golden and caramelized. Season with salt and oregano. Set aside to cool.
-
Prepare the pizza basePreheat oven to 450°F (230°C). Divide the dough into two equal portions. Roll out each portion into a circle about 12 inches in diameter. Place one circle on a greased pizza pan or baking sheet.
-
Add the cheese fillingSpread the mozzarella and provolone cheese evenly over the dough base, leaving a 1-inch border around the edge. Place the second dough circle on top and seal the edges by pinching them together.
-
Top with onions and bakeSpread the caramelized onions evenly over the top of the dough. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and a little more oregano. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
-
ServeRemove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes before slicing. Cut into wedges and serve hot.
