Instructions

  1. Prepare the glaze
In a medium bowl, whisk together the hoisin sauce, soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, grated ginger, minced garlic, sesame oil, and five-spice powder until well combined. Set aside 1/4 cup of the mixture for basting during cooking.
  2. Marinate the pork chops
Pat the pork chops dry with paper towels and place them in a large zip-top bag or shallow dish. Pour the remaining glaze over the pork chops, turning to coat evenly. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 4 hours for more flavor.
  3. Preheat and prepare
Remove the pork chops from the refrigerator 20 minutes before cooking to bring them to room temperature. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Heat the vegetable oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Sear the pork chops
Remove the pork chops from the marinade, allowing excess to drip off. Discard the used marinade. Sear the pork chops in the hot skillet for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and caramelized.
  5. Finish in the oven
Brush the tops of the pork chops with some of the reserved glaze. Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 145°F (63°C). Brush with more glaze halfway through baking.
  6. Rest and serve
Remove the pork chops from the oven and transfer to a plate. Tent loosely with foil and let rest for 5 minutes. Brush with any remaining glaze, sprinkle with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds before serving.
