Prepare the doughIn a large bowl, combine flour, 1/4 cup sugar, and salt. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add the egg and mix until the dough comes together. Form into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Mix the berry fillingIn a large bowl, gently combine all berries with the remaining 1/4 cup sugar, potato starch, lemon juice, vanilla extract, and cardamom. Toss carefully to avoid crushing the berries. Let the mixture stand for 10 minutes to allow flavors to meld.

Prepare the crustPreheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out about 2/3 of the dough on a floured surface to fit a 9-inch pie dish or tart pan. Press the dough into the pan, trimming any excess from the edges. Reserve the remaining dough for the lattice top.

Assemble the piePour the berry mixture into the prepared crust. Roll out the remaining dough and cut into strips for a lattice top, or crumble it over the berries for a traditional Finnish-style topping. Sprinkle with the remaining 2 tablespoons of sugar.
