Classic Burger
Juicy beef patty with melted cheese on a toasted bun
Ingredients
Instructions
-
Prepare the pattiesIn a large bowl, combine the ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently with your hands, being careful not to overwork the meat. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and form into patties about 1/2 inch thick and slightly wider than your buns, as they will shrink when cooked.
-
Preheat the grill or panHeat a grill, grill pan, or cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. If using a skillet or grill pan, add a small amount of oil to prevent sticking.
-
Cook the burgersPlace the patties on the hot grill or pan. For medium burgers, cook for about 4 minutes on each side. For medium-well, cook for 5 minutes per side. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheese on each patty to melt. If desired, toast the buns on the grill or in a toaster until lightly golden.
-
Prepare the sauceWhile the burgers are cooking, mix the mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard in a small bowl to create a simple burger sauce. Set aside.
-
Assemble the burgersSpread the burger sauce on the bottom half of each bun. Place a lettuce leaf on each bun, followed by a tomato slice and some red onion. Add the cooked cheeseburger patty and top with the other half of the bun. Serve immediately with pickle spears or slices on the side.
-
Rest before servingAllow the burgers to rest for 2-3 minutes before serving to allow the juices to redistribute within the patty, ensuring a juicier burger.
