Turkey Burger
Juicy, flavorful alternative to traditional beef burgers
Ingredients
Instructions
-
Prepare the patty mixtureIn a large bowl, combine the ground turkey, diced onion, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix gently with your hands until just combined, being careful not to overmix which can make the burgers tough.
-
Form the pattiesDivide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a patty about 3/4-inch thick. Use your thumb to make a slight depression in the center of each patty to prevent it from puffing up during cooking. If time allows, refrigerate the patties for 20 minutes to help them hold their shape.
-
Cook the turkey burgersHeat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the turkey patties and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) and are no longer pink in the center. Alternatively, grill the patties over medium heat for the same amount of time.
-
Toast the bunsWhile the burgers are cooking, lightly toast the burger buns in a separate pan or on the grill for about 1 minute until golden brown.
-
Assemble the burgersPlace each cooked turkey patty on a toasted bun bottom. Top with a slice of tomato, lettuce leaf, and some sliced red onion. Add any additional condiments like mustard, ketchup, or mayonnaise if desired. Cover with the top bun and serve immediately.
