Avocado Burger
Juicy beef burger topped with creamy avocado and fresh greens
Ingredients
Instructions
-
Prepare the avocado spreadIn a medium bowl, mash the avocados with a fork until somewhat smooth but still slightly chunky. Mix in the lime juice, half of the diced red onion, half of the minced garlic, and jalapeño (if using). Season with 1/4 teaspoon salt and a pinch of black pepper. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use.
-
Form the pattiesIn a large bowl, combine the ground beef with the remaining red onion, remaining garlic, 3/4 teaspoon salt, and black pepper. Gently mix with your hands, being careful not to overwork the meat. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and form into patties about 1/2 inch thick and slightly wider than your burger buns, as they will shrink during cooking.
-
Cook the burgersHeat a large skillet or grill to medium-high heat. If using a skillet, add a tablespoon of oil. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium doneness, or adjust cooking time to your preference. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheese on each patty and cover to melt. If toasting the buns, place them cut-side down on the grill or skillet for about 30 seconds.
-
Assemble the burgersSpread a generous layer of the avocado mixture on the bottom half of each bun. Place a burger patty with melted cheese on top, then add a slice of tomato and a lettuce leaf. Add any additional desired toppings. Cover with the top bun and serve immediately.
-
Serve and enjoyServe the burgers with your favorite sides such as sweet potato fries, a fresh green salad, or corn on the cob. The burgers are best enjoyed immediately while still warm with the cheese melted and the avocado spread cool and creamy.
