Soft, sweet rolls with cinnamon-sugar filling and cream cheese frosting
Ingredients
Instructions
-
Prepare the doughIn a large bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm milk and let stand for 5 minutes until foamy. Add sugar, butter, eggs, and salt, mixing well. Gradually add the flour to form a soft dough. On a floured surface, knead the dough for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
-
Make the fillingIn a medium bowl, mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon until well combined. After the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a 16×21 inch rectangle. Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough, then sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the buttered surface.
-
Roll and cutStarting at the long edge, tightly roll up the dough to form a log. Pinch the seam to seal. Using a sharp knife or dental floss, cut the log into 12 equal rolls (about 1.5 inches each). Place the rolls in a lightly greased 9×13 inch baking pan, leaving some space between each roll. Cover and let rise again for 30-40 minutes, until nearly doubled.
-
Bake the rollsPreheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. While the rolls are baking, prepare the frosting.
-
Make the cream cheese frostingIn a medium bowl, beat together the cream cheese and butter until creamy and smooth. Mix in the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Beat until smooth and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
-
Frost and serveWhen the rolls come out of the oven, allow them to cool for 5-10 minutes before spreading the frosting over the warm rolls. The warmth will help the frosting melt slightly into the rolls. Serve warm for the best experience.
