Instructions
-
Prepare the baking sheetsPreheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats to prevent sticking and for easy cleanup.
-
Cream the butter and sugarsIn a large bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together using an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.
-
Add eggs and vanillaAdd the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract and mix until well combined and smooth.
-
Combine dry ingredientsIn a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed just until incorporated. Do not overmix.
-
Fold in chocolate chipsUsing a spatula, gently fold in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using) until they are evenly distributed throughout the dough.
-
Form and bake the cookiesDrop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown but the centers still look slightly underdone.
-
Cool and storeAllow cookies to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely. Once cooled, store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
